The Department of Artificial Intelligence closely focuses on the national artificial intelligence development strategy, relying on the national “double first-class” key construction disciplines—the national key disciplines of control science and engineering, and the two key disciplines of pattern recognition and intelligent systems and systems engineering. The subject has 2 doctoral degree authorization points, 2 master’s degree authorization points, 1 post-doctoral mobile station, and 1 artificial intelligence undergraduate major. There are 28 teachers in the department, including 1 Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars, 1 National Outstanding Youth funded scholar, 3 New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, 1 Leading Person in Science and Technology Innovation of Liaoning Xingliao Talents Program, Liaoning. There are 1 provincial teaching teacher, 10 doctoral supervisors, 13 professors, 11 associate professors and 4 lecturers, all of whom have doctoral degrees.


The Department of Artificial Intelligence has made remarkable achievements. With intelligent perception, intelligent cognition, intelligent decision-making, and intelligent execution of all-round as the research framework, intelligent robots, intelligent manufacturing, smart logistics, smart medical and smart finance are the research objects. The main research direction focuses on computer vision and pattern recognition theory and methods, machine learning and deep learning theory and methods, intelligent decision theory and methods, intelligent computing theory and methods, intelligent robots and intelligent systems. Focusing on the above research directions, in recent years, the Department of Artificial Intelligence has undertaken the National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Fund Project, the National Natural Science Foundation Key International Cooperation Research Project, the National Innovation Intelligence Base (111) Cultivation Project, the National Key Research and Development Program, the National 863 Program, the National Natural Science Foundation and the Youth Fund Project, the Natural Science Foundation of Liaoning Province, the Shenyang Science and Technology Plan, and more than 300 scientific research projects of large enterprises, achieving important theoretical and application results, forming a distinct Subject characteristics and advantages. The department won the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National Ministry of Education Science and Technology Achievement Award and more than 20 other provincial and ministerial awards, won more than 100 national invention patents, published more than 1,000 research papers in important international conferences and academic journals at home and abroad, SCI included 300. The research results have been widely quoted by domestic and foreign counterparts.


The research achievements of the Department of Artificial Intelligence are fruitful. The department received more than 100 awards for teaching achievements at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, compiled and published more than 20 influential academic works and textbooks, and obtained one national quality course (national quality resource sharing class), two Liaoning Province quality courses, 1 national quality textbook, and 3 quality textbooks in Liaoning Province. Also, 2 teaching teams were rated as provincial teaching team.


The Department of Artificial Intelligence has made great achievements in talent training. More than 700 masters and doctors have been trained. In the training of college students' innovative ability, the department has made remarkable achievements, guiding students to win international and domestic mathematical modeling competition, National College Student Challenge Cup, National College Robot Competition, National Electronic Design Competition, Smart Car Competition, International and Domestic Robot Competition, and more than 200 other awards.


The international cooperation of artificial intelligence has achieved remarkable results. The extensive international cooperation has been established with more than 50 famous experts and scholars (2 academicians of the American Academy of Engineering and 5 fellows of IEEE and ISE) from more than 30 universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries and regions. At the same time, the Northeastern University International Research Center for Future Manufacturing and Service Intelligence Analysis and Decision-making has been established.


The Department of Artificial Intelligence has strong research conditions. At present, the department has built advanced big data research platform and deep learning research platform, equipped with a variety of optimization, simulation and data analysis software, owned national-level robot science and technology popularization base, Liaoning Province Internet of Things technology and urban intelligent traffic engineering technology research center.


The Department of Artificial Intelligence has won many honorary titles such as the provincial party-level and school-level advanced party branch, the three-education advanced group, and the May Fourth Youth Civilization. Looking into the future, the department will face the major needs of the country, aim at the forefront of international disciplines, actively promote the "double first-class" construction process of Northeastern University, and strive to achieve more results in talent training and technological innovation.
